New bypass switch for frequency controlled ventilators
Frequency-controlled ventilation systems are widely used in livestock farming. But what happens when the frequency control fails or requires maintenance? Do the ventilation systems then continue to function as usual? They will if they are equipped with the new ABB bypass switch.
Prevent downtime
The livestock industry uses ventilation systems to realise the right temperature, humidity and air quality in stables and animal houses. A good indoor climate is important for animal welfare and for efficient and sustainable production. For an optimal indoor climate, the ventilation systems are fitted with frequency-controlled fans. In emergencies or in case of failure, it must be possible to temporarily switch off this frequency control. ABB offers an ideal solution for this with a new 25...40 A bypass switch for frequency controlled fans. The ventilation system can thus continue to operate safely, reliably and simply in the event of a fault.
Robust design
The bypass switch is designed for safe and reliable performance in environments with electromagnetic disturbances (EMC). The switch's housing is made of high-quality, corrosion-free and UV-resistant material that lends itself to indoor and outdoor use. With an IP65 protection rating, it is well protected against dust and water.
Easy installation
The new ABB bypass switch is an all-in-one solution that is easy to install. Important for the farmer: the compact design of the bypass switch also saves considerable space. All necessary hardware is included in the delivery: starter cable set, EMC connectors and a provision for wall mounting. The scope of delivery includes three auxiliary contacts for the transmission of additional signals. This could include signalling when the switch is on bypass.
Safety and security
The switch has a clear three-position indication (I-Frequency, O-OFF, II-Bypass). There is room in the housing to fit an optional voltage monitoring relay. This further increases the reliability of the fan. The monitoring relay ensures the activation of an emergency power supply (genset) and thus helps to achieve maximum system availability.

Stimac - Good technical support for ever-changing specificationsRead moreIf the description for an automation project is clear from the start, it is easy for the industrial automation specialist to give it substance. In practice, however, specifications often change during the course of a project. This happened to Stimac/SNK when designing the control technology for a horticultural machine. For the problems that arose during the process, itsme quickly provided Stimac/SNK with a solution. “When a customer calls us, we respond immediately. So it’s nice to have a supplier like itsme who can also help immediately.”
