Schneider Electric – Modicon Edge I/O NTS

The future-proof I/O system that is ready for a data-driven industrial future

Since the introduction of the first Input/Output systems more than half a century ago, the world of industrial automation has undergone a tremendous transformation. With Modicon Edge I/O NTS, Schneider Electric introduces the new generation of distributed I/O solutions that meet the current needs of customers in the field of industrial I/O applications, while preparing them for the digital challenges of tomorrow.

I/O systems play a crucial role in industrial automation solutions

I/O systems play a crucial role in industrial automation solutions. They form the bridge between the control systems and the physical processes in a factory or production line, connecting devices within an automated network, controlling executive components and receiving signals from connected sensors. However, with Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) redefining the boundaries of what is possible in the industrial landscape, I/O systems must also evolve.

Designed with the future in mind - Modicon Edge I/O NTS

Modicon Edge I/O NTS, Schneider Electric's latest IP20 distributed I/O system, is more than just an input/output system. The system is designed to provide industries with the tools they need to succeed in a digital world that is increasingly driven by data. The system's ability to aggregate and securely share data enables smarter decision-making and better operational performance. With Modicon Edge I/O NTS, Schneider Electric is setting a new standard for network products that meet the requirements of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). With open Ethernet protocols for connection to a wide range of devices and architectures, OPC UA technology for secure communication and interoperability, and built-in hardware-level cybersecurity, Modicon Edge I/O NTS helps improve connectivity, performance, availability and network security. The system also complies with applicable cybersecurity regulations. This enables end users to securely access their data and use it optimally, increasing industrial efficiency, flexibility, sustainability and profitability.

Robust, compact, flexible and scalable

Modicon Edge I/O NTS impresses with its robustness in terms of temperature variations, vibrations and electromagnetic radiation, ensuring reliability in industrial environments. The system is built with flexibility in mind and offers a wide range of modules for various industrial applications. Thanks to the wide range of modules and functionalities, the customisable I/O islands and the compact design, more I/O modules and functionality are possible in less space. For example, it is possible to have a single island consisting of one module (only 75 mm wide), while larger systems can have up to 250 modules.

Lower operating costs and higher productivity

With Modicon Edge I/O NTS, customers save time from initial design to commissioning. This is thanks to adaptive tools, simpler design and wiring, and faster start-up of machines and processes for a shorter time-to-market. With its robust construction and features such as hot-swap capabilities and integrated diagnostics, Modicon Edge I/O NTS helps minimise downtime and repair times. This results in lower operating costs and higher productivity. The integrated web server ensures easy commissioning.

Suitable for a wide range of applications in various industries

As an IP20 distributed I/O system, Modicon Edge I/O NTS is designed to meet the current requirements of a wide range of applications with a single I/O series. Machine builders, system integrators and industrial end users can deploy Modicon Edge I/O NTS in various sectors, from machine building to the packaging industry and from food to water/wastewater, critical infrastructure, data centres, transport and energy and chemicals.
