Increase the efficiency of machines and installations

The slightly higher price of a managed switch is quickly recovered!

The efficiency of machines and installations stands or falls with their availability. Failures have a direct effect on this and cause higher costs.

To ensure or even increase the efficiency of machines and installations, good (preventive) diagnosis is important. Still, many machine and production networks use unmanaged switches that cannot provide diagnostics about themselves and the network. This is because managed switches, which do provide diagnostics, are often considered complex and expensive.

Are managed switches expensive?

Managed switches are indeed more expensive than a comparable unmanaged variant, but in return, they also offer much more functionality that pays for itself quickly! Have you ever considered that an unplanned production stop of your machine or installation can easily cost several hundreds to thousands of euros per hour? So a price difference of 150 euros soon compensates for itself during a breakdown. Not to mention the information a managed switch can provide to prevent breakdowns.

Are managed switches complex?

No, not by definition. In fact, there are managed switches that are just as user-friendly as an unmanaged switch but offer features that greatly improve the stability and robustness of the network. In addition, a user-friendly Web interface guides you during configuration, and in the event of replacement, a removable memory card offers a solution for the service technician.

Do managed switches offer other benefits?

Yes, but perhaps one of the most important features are the security features, which, for example, provide protection against unauthorised access to the switch and the network!

These and many other features ensure that the difference in purchase price is quickly repaid.

Stimac - Good technical support for ever-changing specifications
If the description for an automation project is clear from the start, it is easy for the industrial automation specialist to give it substance. For the problems that arose during the process, itsme quickly provided Stimac/SNK with a solution. “When a customer calls us, we respond immediately.
