Phoenix Contact - Prevent Unexpected Downtime with VALVETRAB-SPP Surge Protection
Surge protection is essential for the safety and reliability of electrical installations. Not only in traditional applications, but also in modern systems such as solar energy, battery storage, data centers, and e-mobility charging infrastructure.
New Standard: Foundation for Reliable Protection
International standards such as EN/IEC 61643 have been tightened. They set stricter requirements for electrical safety, mechanical robustness, and behavior under overload or short circuit. They also include specific requirements for DC applications and renewable energy.
An important focus in the revised standards is the insulation of auxiliary circuits. In systems with extra-low voltage (such as SELV and PELV), double or reinforced insulation is now mandatory. This increases the safety of both equipment and installers.
VALVETRAB SPP Combines Safety, Reliability, and Ease of Installation
- Simple installation and high protection capacity
- The system safely switches off in case of overload
- Suitable for extreme conditions
Easy Installation and Smart Protection
The tightening torque of the terminals has been reduced to 3 Nm, making installation easy. The protection operates up to 315 A without additional fuses and includes protection against incorrect wiring. This prevents wrong connections, dangerous heat build-up, and electric shocks.
Safe Shutdown in Case of Overload
Another strong point of the VALVETRAB-SPP is the fast internal disconnection. Thanks to a thermally coupled disconnect on the varistor, the system safely switches off in case of overload. The integrated Arc Shield prevents arcing and further increases safety.
Suitable for Extreme Conditions
In terms of mechanical requirements, the series also scores high. Thanks to increased air and creepage distances, use is possible up to 5000 meters altitude and in polluted industrial environments (OVC III, pollution degree 3, 400 V).
Future-Proof Solution
An electrified future calls for new standards. VALVETRAB-SPP offers a safe, reliable, and easy-to-install solution.

Avebe - A Good Night’s Sleep Thanks to FactoryScanRead moreCompanies often have no clear idea of the installed base of industrial automation in their factories and warehouses. With FactoryScan, itsme can provide an overview of the current status of automation components such as PLCs. Potato processor Royal Avebe uses the results to update their component stock and assess future availability. The scan is intended to reduce the number of hardware-related disruptions Process Control Engineer Johan Wierenga has to deal with. It also helps him sleep better, knowing the stock is up to date.
