The new compact vacuum generator OVEL from Festo has been developed for efficient and decentralized vacuum generation. Due to the modular construction you can pick precisely the right configuration for an specific application. In addition, the lightweight generator has an analog pressure sensor, the values of which can be made visible with the help of an SCDN signal converter. The analog signals can also be digitized via IO-Link and to be sent to a higher level controller.
Festo focus: OVEL vacuum generator: the best of both worlds
Communication via IO-Link
The new compact vacuum generator OVEL from Festo has been developed for efficient and decentralized vacuum generation. Due to the modular construction you can pick precisely the right configuration for an specific application. In addition, the lightweight generator has an analog pressure sensor, the values of which can be made visible with the help of an SCDN signal converter. The analog signals can also be digitized via IO-Link and to be sent to a higher level controller.
Festo previously developed a simple, inexpensive vacuum generator (VN) without much extra functionality and a very advanced unit (OVEM) where the compressed air is automatically switched on and off via a control circuit. With the OVEL Festo now introduces an innovation in which the user benefits from the simplicity and low costs of the VN, while it is still possible to communicate via IO-Link and to read the vacuum level via a display (SCDN).
Also characteristic of the OVEL vacuum generators are the two 2/2 valves with which the user can switch the vacuum on and off respectively and give a blow-off pulse. This type of valve also makes it possible to create a vacuum, hold it and then switch off the generator.
The IO-Link communication protocol is still gaining popularity. Festo has known this for a long time and carries out many of its innovations with the possibility of communicating via IO-Link. The vacuum generator OVEL can be used, among other things, to read data from up to two analog sensors. For example, a vacuum sensor (pressure sensor) and a sensor that recommends the status of the generator (on or off). The data can then be forwarded to a higher-level controller of PLC and used there for controlling the generator.
By IO-link the vacuum generator is also easy to parameterize and commission. The serial data transfer also allows OVEL to send data that improves maintenance and failure analysis, among other things.
The OVEL vacuum generator is ideally suited for assembling and testing smaller components. The low weight and compact dimensions of the vacuum generator support extremely short cycle times during inspection and pick & place processes.

Van Meer - Quick Connection for Energy StorageRead moreDrive specialist Van Meer developed an energy storage system for heavy-duty drives and designed a custom battery system for it. For the connectors in the battery system’s cabinet, their regular supplier itsme recommended omni-brand partner Phoenix Contact. Excellent connectors — only the frame didn’t fit. Phoenix Contact quickly developed a customer-specific connector design. itsme now supplies Van Meer with complete connector sets, including the custom plug.

Avebe - A Good Night’s Sleep Thanks to FactoryScanRead moreCompanies often have no clear idea of the installed base of industrial automation in their factories and warehouses. With FactoryScan, itsme can provide an overview of the current status of automation components such as PLCs. Potato processor Royal Avebe uses the results to update their component stock and assess future availability. The scan is intended to reduce the number of hardware-related disruptions Process Control Engineer Johan Wierenga has to deal with. It also helps him sleep better, knowing the stock is up to date.

Elektro VV - The right expertise in the right placeRead moreElektro VV, based in the Belgian province of Antwerp, carries out general electrical work and solar panel installations for both companies and private individuals. For complex projects, the company calls on Breemes, which brings expertise such as low-voltage studies. “The challenge is to design a panel that can be built quickly and efficiently, and is future-proof.”

OI - Warm relationship with supplierRead moreThe O-I glass factory in Leerdam produces 3.5 million beer bottles every day. The challenge of keeping production running 24/7 is tackled together with trusted supplier itsme. They ensure that technicians never run out of stock during maintenance and that critical components like cables and sensors are heat-resistant. This makes life much more relaxed for supervisor Patrick Maduro and his team in the electrical engineering department.
